What's Music got to do with it?
What's Music got to do with it? Everything. The way we live, dress, treat each other, and our everyday actions are influenced by Music. How, you say? Well a lot of youth believe that the lifestyle they should have is: many cars, many houses, mad money, and mad honey's. They look at the rappers or the huge music artists and believe that their life should be that way. Sucess is obtained through record deals or having songs at the top of the chart. But also, by becoming doctors, Lawyers, Nurses, Biologists, Scientists and many more. Many who chose these careers have enough money to buy many cars, many houses. Success does not only come with degreees, but reaching your goal, trying your hardest, and letting no one get in the way of your dreams. The clothes we wear and the new styles that we style out, were first worn by a musical artist and then the public rapidly. For examples, scarfs, skinny jeans, "Kanye Shades", checkered belts, hairstyles, etc. Let's not mention our style of language, swaggs and our whole mentality. Do you think that Music is a good influence on teens, that if it changed for the good that it could improve teens? Or do you think that Music is a bad influence on teens, and will make them worse? Let's talk about the way we talk to each other. Women are being called a lot of names. Names that are harmful and uncalled for. One day a rapper comes up with a new name for a female, and the next day, a youth is being suspended from school for calling a female that. Music is the author of our language, the way we treat each other and music shapes society. Do you think that Music is a good thing and that if it changed for the good, that it would improve teens? Or do you believe that Music is bad and it makes teens worse?

I'll be the first to respond! First, music is an art form that has evolved over, I beleive, the history of human beings. That being said, it is hard to argue that music is simply bad. Music, just like any other art form or social activity, is influenced by reality and fiction, so it has the potential to hurt as well as heal. I love music and although main stream radio stations and music television choose music that is more commerical than soul saving or socially just, there is more value to having its flaws over not having music at all.

I think music should stay. People always blame the music for influencing them and that's why they do the "bad or inappropriate" things they do. But that is not so. An artist can influence you all he or she wants but in the end its up to the person how he or she wishes to act. That goes for when anyone tries to influence someone to do anything. The teens are the ones letting their minds and way of thinking sway to the negative immoral decisions they execute in their lives. That includes the way the act, what they wear, and how they speek. It all comes down to the old saying, "If everyone jumped off a bridge, would you jump too"?
ReplyDeleteI Agree with the one above. Music by its self itnt to blame with the way people act. Yes its true that many people listen to music and think that wat is being said is cool and they should do it too. But not in all cases. the way people act has to do with what there around and what they were brought up around.
ReplyDeletei don't think that music is a bad thing in general, but the things that some rappers say does have a huge effect on teens today. i agree with this article because teens do immitate what they see rappers or music artist do. the hip hop world can have a huge effect on teens because teens want to be like certain rappers and they try to obtain what the rapper has, and they also try to do what the rapper does. and lets be honest theres a slight chance its going to happen for them. but on the other hand some people listen to music and know that most of the things that the artist says for example like being rich and buing this and that is not going to happen for them unless they go to college and obtain a great education.they know the odds of being this big rapper and making it big is a slight chance.
ReplyDeleteok so since all the post kind of tie 2gether i'll comment in one. i believe music does have a tremendous effect our music. However its influence is not always negative. I believe hip-hop music is more of what you are talking about because i highly doubt that gospel would cause a violent uproar.
ReplyDeleteas far as Rochester i completely agree with aspect " repping' a side or area of the city is completely pointless. Your fighting over a street but what is that street going to do for you in your time of struggle.
Skinny jeans! well i think they are going to be played out a long with the jerk and all the common dances of the present. however i think anyone should be able to wear them boys or girls. What is the difference because it is not uncommon for girls to wear baggy or loose jeans without there being a questions of whether or not it is acceptable.
Audio Push / New Boyz. It is all the same just different versions. So they are equal. Though the dances introduced by Audio Push appear to be slightly more complex. either way i can't jerk, reject or anything else for that matter.lol
My last question. Global Unity? how does music affect the cultures around the world? how does it differ form the influence it has in the U.S.? Are other countries or cities experiencing issues like those we face in Rochester?
The influence that music may give people is positive or negative. Music not all the time may cause trouble.
ReplyDeleteI think music is a big influence on young people because some of them follow what the artist says to be cool or whatever...but they need to grow up and make their own decisions not do what a song says..
