Watermount Jamaica/ Jamaican Reggae

Watermount Jamaica.....No water in households...

In Watermount Jamaica there is no water in households. The water supply comes from one standpipe where not only can you get drinking water but it is also where residents do their laundry. Residents have been promised a improvement in water supply since 1977 and till this day there are lock-offs to different standpipes.

How would u feel if u couldn't just get up and get water? Your shower water is water that people have done laundry in? how does this remind you of school discussions about some countries not having water at all, going green and recycling water? Who do you think is to blame?

Jamaican Reggae

Three Little Birds---Bob Marley  <---link
Of course many of you have heard of Bob Marley, Ziggy Marley and Sean Paul.Well one of them, Bob Marley, left a huge impact on society. Well firstly, Bob Marley believed in unifying all black people through music. He believed that if blacks could come together through music, then they could come together through anything. One of his songs that many around the world are probably familiar with, is, "Don't Worry, Be Happy." Marley died of cancer that spread from his foot, to his lungs and brain. Marley left a huge impact on society. He Bob Marley believed that life was too short to be sad and upset. Also, that you should keep a smile on your face even when times get bad. He also said, "don't worry bout a thang" because, "Every little thing is gonna be alright." He changed the world by letting people know that there's no reason to hate each other, no matter race, religion, sexual orientation or their views on life. He also said that since we're all here on this earth together , we might as well share it and love it together to make a better place. what is your opinion of Bob's theories and his vies? Do you agree or disagree? Should other artists be like him?

  1. I say that I hate water because it taste nasty so i won't drink it but i think water is essential to life. What would i do if i couldn't shower? People need to save, value, and recycle water. I hate when people promise to do something but never do it, especially with things as big as this. This type of disrespect for the needs of people has happened throughout all of history in every country. Even in the United States, the government has promised things to the people which they never fulfilled. And even if the promise is fulfilled its always fulfilled at the expense of the people. The government loves to raise taxes even though the raising of taxes is why America broke away from England, talk about irony. the government needs to fulfill their promises or they people won't stay quiet. This is how rebellions start, even over "such little things" as water.

I love reggae music and have heard it since I was little since my family's from St. Croix, VI in the Caribbean. And some reggae music leaves negative impacts on its listeners, especially children. My mom once took all the reggae music out of her car because she realized it was early in the morning and I was singing a song about people sexing. My mom was so mad she took everything out, replaced it with gospel music, yelled at us, and told us to pray right then! She didn't like the fact that my little sister and i were singing this song that left negative images in our heads, influencing us in ways, she as a parent, frowned upon. My dad's from Dominica and during the time he was living there it wasn't such a good place. So my dad loves Bob Marley's music and so do I. I remember being three years old listening to his songs Three Little Birds and One Love, and actually hearing my dad sing for the first time! So his music impacts people big time.I agree with his theories because they're ideal and much like the theories of black philosophers in america such as Malcom X and Martin Luther King Jr. I also think that much like then, the reality of his theories coming to reality is just a far off untangible dream had by many people. i read Balck like me by John Howard Griffin over the summer and one of the black men he stayed with knew that if the black people would just unify together they would be able to stand up to the whites who treatted them differently and they'd become a better community (during the time of racism and segregation). I think many artists already try to be like him but no one ends up liking those songs because its nothing but a rip off of Bob Marley's songs. I think if they use their own voice, lyrics, and style but with the same message then people would actually like their music and stop searching for fulfillment through more negative songs as a replacement for the real songs their actually looking for.

  2. I feel bad for the people who have to go through this, but I blame the Jamaican gov't. It is not the people's fault that they have to share water. It's one thing to recycle water, but to directly share water is unhealthy and unfair. This makes me think of the Countries that have a lack of natural resources. If I was in that situation, I would try to move my family to a better country.

I think that Bob Marley was a great person and a great musician. I love his music and his ideas on society. I wish that more artists had the same mentality as Mr. Marley. I have the same beliefs as him. I think that we should spend more time loving each other instead of hatin' on each other and that when we go through, that we just need to keep a smile on our faces. Because before things can get better they have to get worse in order to teach us values, lessons and along the way, it shows us a new path to take to avoid going through it again.

  3. Not having running water in your house is a scary thing to think about. People in america never think about because it rare to hear about someone whos doesnt have running water in there house. Having to drink water that laundry is done in and where people tke baths is very unhealthy. People get sick and spread dieses. If they have been promised running water for two years, it should of happened by now. It is ridiculous that the village has had their hopes up for this long.

I absolutly love Bob Marley. He messages to the world wat positve and it was coming froma black man so it was great. I know alot of non black people who love him to. he was man about acceptance and diversity. not only was he a great man he was a great musician. Hes musis is real good

  5. I would feel terrible if I woked up and their was no water. I feel bad for those people that have to share water. The same water that they use they also use it to do their laundry.

  6. It Is Not Their Fault That They Have To Share Water Presonally. I Really Think That Its The Government. I Really Think They Should Be Able To Have Seperate Water Or Something .. Build Them A Kind Of Thing That Can Recycle Their Water And Bring It Back To Them Clean. No One Should Have To Share Water. Arent We Supposed To Be Equal In This World?? This Is Jus So Crazy To Me. I Agree With Youh Girl Because Its True The Government Should Have Enough Money To At Least Give Them Clean Water !

  7. Well Me Personally ... iReally Love The Fact That Bob Marley Was A Man That Came Out And Spoke On What We Need To Do In Postive Ways. I Think That His Words That Came From The Music That He Sung Are Very Very Very Appealing To Me Because How Many Singers Or Rappers Or Anything Are Out Her Telling Kids To Stop The Violence And Stop Doing Things That Doesnt Result To Nothing But Jail. He Tried To Create Peace Through His Music And Wouldnt Stop Trying Till He Died. And iLove Him For That !

Imagine if we see its a hard way of living just writing it down imagine living it!!
I feel really bad for this people!! Thats why i say that we should live confortable with what we have because there are people ib the world that have less than us.

  9. For me Bob Marley has an big impact on my life because i am also Jamacan so as i was growing up my grandparents always had us listen to Bob Marleys music. But i agree to Bob Marley because even if he is dead people around the world still know who Bob Marley is. Bob Marley is dead and his songs are still played on T.Vs, he also still has CDs comeing out. in Jamaica they have a stature of Bob Marley thats how they love him and he will never be forgoten.

In jamaica liveing is rough. Every monring you have to get up and walk at least a mile to go get some water for your family. in some houses the men has to make eleictresty run though the house (some times) but to me i would blam no one. cause god does these things for a reason right?

  10. Watermount Jamaica: No Water?!?!?!? I WOULD LITERALLY DIE WITHOUT WATER! I couldn’t live if I didn’t have water. Water is everything in a person’s life. You need water to cook with; wash: dishes, car and/or bike, and body; to drink; and other stuff. I need water to survive. I drink water during practices for the sports that I play. How could you not clean yourself or even the thought of washing with your laundry water. That is just disgusting. I understand that that’s the way some people live but it’s just not a lifestyle I would not want to have. This is why some of the countries have chosen to recycle and go green because of the shortage of water and other necessities in everyday life.

Three Little Birds Bob Marley: I love reggae music a lot. Bob Marley’s music is inspiration to all. According to an American critic Timothy White, “He’s taken place of James Brown and Sly Stone as a persuasive influence on R&B.” I believe in Bob Marley’s theories because they it’s good advice for people to take into consideration. Other reggae artist should follow in his footsteps. I truly believe that if he was still alive, he would still be continuing to change the lives of others.

  11. when i went to visit my family this summer in Jamaica, my aunt actually was in this same situation. They had oe pipe out back, an outhouse, and little spce with 3 walls and a shower curtain where you showered. And might i add my great aunt and other cousins did have running water in there house but only 2 of my family's houses that i went to had warm water. It was rough not having any warm water to shower. Even though people may think it would be horrible to live in these conditions i think it truly humbles you. It was hard getting used to again (my second time in Jamaica). But it was fun and also made you appreciate life and what you have much more.

  12. I love that everyone loves reggae music. It's my favorite and though you think many people love it, many people favor hip hop, rap and rnb over reggae. I like those too but they all come second to reggae.
